Cleat Hitch: How to Tie It Properly
Updated: Sep 14
The cleat hitch is one of the most useful knots to know when mooring a boat, pontoon or watercraft to a dock.
Simple, fast and effective, it allows you to secure a mooring line to a dock cleat or boat cleat.
In this short video, we show how to tie a cleat hitch directly on a Nomad Dock pontoon.
A standard cleat hitch is usually tied with one crossing before the final locking turn. In the video, we use two crossings before the final lock, which is the method we prefer for a strong and secure hold.
Knowing this knot can make a real difference when mooring, especially when the watercraft moves with wind, waves or water level changes.
It is a basic boating tip, but an essential one for enjoying the water with more confidence.
At E-Z Innovation, we design simple, strong and maintenance-free pontoons and docks made to help people enjoy the water without complication.
The video is in French, but the demonstration clearly shows the concept in action.
